Of Irish and Cherokee decent, Jim Beavers was born in 1952, in the town of Columbia, South Carolina. Beavers moved to the Southwest as a child, relocating to Arizona. As a young man, Jim was inspired to re-create the legacy that had walked the land before him. Jim reflects, "I did a great deal of experimenting to compliment the style & quality of southwest prehistoric pottery".
Jim Beavers, a master sculptor of the Southwest, is best known for his creation of unique vessels. These sacred vessels are sometimes used as display art but are actually built for function and are often used as urns. These vessels allow you to incorporate your past loved ones in your daily life by adding not simply an urn to your decor, but a work of art. The paints are mixed by hand and applied, freehand, to the design. The piece is then fired at 2200 degrees. The vessels should always be handled with care.
Artist Statement of Jim Beavers: People often say functional art is the mainstay for marketing pottery. Most of my work has been dedicated to ornamental pottery, made for one who displays art and collects it for art's sake. Ceramic creation urns are both functional, and beautifully personal. I offer my services to personalize these urns in whatever way you need. If your loved one enjoyed a lifelong hobby or interest that you would like reflected in his/her final resting spot, I can help make that happen. I will memorialize his/her greatest inspirations through the carving and sculpting of your custom, sacred capsule. You may even want to design your own urn before you pass on, so it is truly a reflection of your own personal taste.
